Alex Hughes It was the main beneficiary of a rain-shortened day on Wantage Road as it headed to 74 no, moving Derbyshire to 118 by 4 responding to 255 from Northamptonshire.

With only 29 possible overs in the morning session, Hughes moved from his 38th overnight to a quarter fifty in consecutive County Championship games.

Under very gloomy skies with menacing rain, Hughes enjoyed a good run of luck with several plays and faults and an inner edge through the diaper that missed the stump of the leg.
