Arron Lilley helps Leicestershire cope with Ben Raine departure

Arron Lilley joined Leicestershire on a two-year contract. Lilley, an off-road all-rounder, was launched by Lancashire at the end of the season and joins Marshal Chris Wright of Warwickshire and Will Davis of Derbyshire to sign for Leicestershire.

Lilley was developed through the Lancashire system to record in all forms of the game. However, due to Lancashire's strength in spinning bowling, he fought for opportunities, only played a first class match and a List A in the previous two seasons, and saw most of his appearances in the T20 cricket, where He has hit in the first order and sometimes opened the bowling.

He was a member of the Lancashire team that won the T20 Blast in 2015 and will join the left spinner Callum Parkinson, which was also developed through the Lancashire Academy, in Leicestershire. [19659002] The club hopes that the signing of Lilley will serve to fill the chasm left by the departure of Ben Raine, who returned to Durham. Zak Chappell also left, signing for Nottinghamshire, while Ned Eckersley, Richard Jones, Tom Wells, Mark Pettini and Rob Sayer were released at the end of the season. The club has also been in a long dispute with Michael Carberry, who has not played since being deposed as captain in May. It seems unlikely that he will return.

Leicestershire also confirmed last week that Pakistani quarterback Mohammad Abbas, who had an outstanding 2018 season, will return next year.

"Arron will add great value to our side," Leicestershire head coach Paul Nixon said. "He is a three-dimensional cricketer who will be valuable in all formats." Lancashire is famous for producing high-class spinners, and wants to compete for a place in all three competitions.

"Arron also has a very good white -ball record. and it will be added to our plans very well. Arron is a strong hitter, an outstanding player and a tremendous fielder, and we are thrilled to have him on board for the 2019 season. "

Lilley said:" I am delighted to join Paul Nixon and the squad. I really want to develop my game in all three formats and I'm sure Grace Road is the best place to do it. I can not wait to start. "
