Determined Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team beat Japan 1-0

Johor Bahru (Malaysia), October 9, 2018: The Indian junior men's hockey team remained at the top of their game by recording their third consecutive victory in the 8th Sultan of the Johor Cup 2018 by winning to Japan 1-0 In a very close game.

The India-Japan match, affected by the rain, which stopped for a few minutes during the first quarter, fought intensely between the two teams. With Japan on the rise, with its Senior and Junior teams advancing at a good pace in the preparations for the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian Colts had a difficult task.

His attack was often challenged with a good and disciplined defense structure that Japan adopted throughout the duration of the game. Although India had some opportunities in the first quarter with the team winning a PC, a good Japanese defense denied it.

With the second quarter also ending in a stalemate with both teams at 0-0, the third quarter saw India attack. While two PCs were awarded to India after a Japanese infringement, it was on the second attempt that Skipper Mandeep Mor made a well-executed PC in the 42nd minute.

Leading by just one goal, India put all its strength in defense with goalkeeper Pankaj Rajak doing some excellent saves to keep his team in the lead. India overcame shaving a bit when Japan won a PC with the remaining minutes to the end, however, missed the opportunity and India kept its nerve to seal the match and the winning points.

Previously in the tournament, the Indian Colts had won 2-1 against Malaysia and 7-1 against New Zealand.

The Indian Men's Junior Team will face the defending Champions of Australia in their fourth match on October 10, 2018 at 13.35hrs IST.
