JP Duminy will miss both South Africa's upcoming limited tour of Australia and the Mzansi Super League to undergo surgery for a right shoulder injury.
Duminy had been announced as the marquee of South Africa for the Cape Town Blitz in the MSL, but will now be replaced by Quinton de Kock. The time away from Duminy for surgery means that South Africa will not have two of its most experienced players on its trip to Australia. Earlier this week, it was announced that Hashim Amla would not be on tour either, as he is given time to fully recover from a finger injury that was taken during the Caribbean Premier League.
"JP aggravated a pre-existing shoulder injury during the recently concluded series against Zimbabwe," said South Africa team manager Dr. Mohammed Moosajee. "The injury will require surgical treatment, which will exclude him from the immediate tour of Australia and the next MSL.For the moment, we can not say how long he will be out, that depends on the results of the surgery."
The squadron of South Africa for the tour of Australia, consisting of three international one-day and a solo international T20, will be announced later this week. The tour begins with a preparation game against the XI Prime Minister on October 31, while the MSL begins on November 16 and runs until December 16.
