England won the draw and chose to launch against Sri Lanka
Live score card and ball-by-ball details
England won the draw and chose first in the ODI room, perhaps reasoning that cloudy conditions can help their players in the league, and with the threat of rain looming, they would prefer to be pursuing if the calculations of Duckworth-Lewis-Stern come into play.
The only change from England was forced by injury. Starter Jonny Bairstow rolled an ankle in training on Friday and was ruled out as unavailable. Alex Hales moves to XI instead. Rapid bowler Liam Plunkett, who arrived in Sri Lanka on Tuesday, was omitted, perhaps because of the reasoning that he has not yet properly acclimatized. Olly Stone, the 25-year-old fast, retains his place.
Sri Lanka made a change in the front of fast bowling. Nuwan Pradeep, who had been good at the first ODI, gives way to Kasun Rajitha. With the rain around, and with Pallekele a rather nice place for the seams, perhaps Sri Lanka felt that Rajitha's ability to move the ball was preferable to Pradeep's experience.
One more victory here will see England sew the series 3-0, with the last match to play on Tuesday.
