Giants rookie running back Barkley ‘ready for full workload’ in opener


New York Giants rookie Saquon Barkley looks completely healthy in the first week.


The 21-year-old rookie running back told reporters on Monday he was “ready for a full workload” when the Giants face the Jacksonville Jaguars at their regular season opening on Sunday.


The No. 2 pick in this year’s draft suffered a strained hamstring while practicing on August 13. He returned to practice nine days later, but retired from the last three in New York. preseason games.


“I was still able to make physical contact in practice,” said Barkley.


“I feel like I’m in good physical shape, because in practice, [I was] doing a little more stuff … on the sideline: running, conditioning.”


Barkley recorded 43 rushing yards on four carries in his only preseason game against the Cleveland Browns on Aug. 9.
