Injury-hit Bangladesh recall Mominul for Asia Cup

Dhaka – Bangladesh has added batter Mominul Haque to his
squad for the Asian Cup as support for several players with injuries,
the selectors said on Friday.

"He is a first-order hitter, who can play as a starter
or in (the) position from bottom to bottom. So we thought that its inclusion could be useful in
the tournament, "said Habibul Bashar.

Starter Tamim Iqbal has a problem with his finger while
left-hander Nazmul Hossain hurt his left thumb during a recent
training session.

"We hope both of you play, but we think
Mominul could play alone if they feel any problems, "Bashar added.

Bangladesh is Group B along with Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in
the six-nation Asian Cup, which will be held from September 15 to 28 in the United Arab Emirates
Emirates.

The Tigers also have some concerns about fitness
off-road Shakib Al Hasan, who was willing to skip the Asian Cup to have a
surgery on a finger.

But the Bangladesh Cricket Board insisted on playing it in
the tournament, putting your surgery on hold until October when they receive
Zimbabwe.

Shakib in a recent interview with the newspaper in English
Star said he has an adjustment of only 20-30 percent, a claim that was quickly
fired by Bangladesh coach Steve Rhodes.

"I do not think it has an adjustment of 20-30 percent.
much more in shape than that, "Rhodes said in Dhaka on Thursday.

" He's not completely fit. But if he plays something like him
played in the Caribbean, then that will be a great asset for Bangladesh
cricket, "said Rhodes.

Shakib scored 190 runs in three one-day international matches
The Antilles in July, playing a key role in the victory of the Bangladesh 2-1 series.

Mominul, who can also play the spin with his left arm, played the last of
his 26 ODI during the 2015 World Cup.

A regular test, Mominul reminded the selectors of his
limited skill during the recent Bangladesh A tour of Ireland, with a score of 182
of 132 balls in one entry.
