Lloris back to face Barcelona but quartet ruled out for Tottenham

Serge Aurier, Mousa Dembele, Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen will join Dele Alli in the Tottenham Champions League tie with Barcelona – but Hugo Lloris will start on Wednesday.

Alli missed the Premier League victory over Huddersfield Town over the weekend with a hamstring injury, with Mauricio Pochettino confirming after the 2-0 victory that the midfielder would not be ready to face the Barcelona midweek.

However, the Spurs confirmed that the English international will not play again before the international break, which means he will also miss Saturday's league game with Cardiff City.

Defenders Aurier and Vertonghen, as well as the midfield duo Dembele and Eriksen, have also been eliminated from the club's next two games, leaving Pochettino aware of the options.

Still, the head of the Spurs is driven by the return of goalkeeper Lloris for the Group B match in Europe, with the French international available for the national team after returning to training.

Lloris has not presented since the 3-0 Premier League victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on August 27 due to a thigh problem.

The winner of the World Cup missed the first match of the Champions League, as an advantage of a goal in the final stages to lose 2-1 against Inter in Milan.

It is expected that his fellow goalkeeper Michel Vorm will return to training before the end of the week, while continuing to recover from a knee injury.
