Rishabh Pant will be online to make his ODI debut against the West Indies after he was chosen in the 14-man team for the first two ODI. Virat Kohli returned to lead the team after missing the Asian Cup and fast frontline players Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah rested.

Dinesh Karthik stayed out of the team to make way for Pant. Kredar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya have not yet recovered from their injuries and Jadhav could return after the first two ODI. While Pandya injured his lower back in the Asian Cup match against Pakistan that was ruled out of the tournament, Jadhav later won the Indian title with an injured hamstring. Pandya, it is understood, will be adjusted from the second week of November.

The rhythm department saw the return of Mohammed Shami, who played an ODI for the last time more than a year ago. He had played all five Tests in England and the first against the West Indies in Rajkot after having had injury problems in the first half of the year. He had played the IPL with some criticism and was later removed from the Test against Afghanistan for not passing a physical fitness test at the National Cricket Academy.

Deepak Chahar and Siddarth Kaul, who each played one game in the Asian Cup, were left out while left-hander Khaleel Ahmed retained his place. Chahal and Kaul had been replaced by injuries from Pandya and Shardul Thakur in the Asian Cup. Thakur returned to the squad after recovering and playing a one-day home game for Mumbai against Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, taking 3 of 53 and scoring 30 of 14 balls in the match.

Axar Patel had also been injured during the Asian Cup, but his place was devoured by the replacement of Ravindra Jadeja next to ODI. The spinning attack was the same, with Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal completing the trio.

Karthik played all five games in the Asian Cup and accumulated 146 races, with two undefeated strokes with an average of 48.66, but an attack rate of 71.21, only greater than that of MS Dhoni (62, 09) between the Indian hitters who hit at least twice in the tournament.

ODI Squad : Virat Kohli (capt), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed, Kurtde Thadak, Kurtde Thurku , Yuzvendra Chahal
