Raza, ZC mend contractual differences

Sikandar Raza has been added to the Zimbabwean squads that travel to Bangladesh next month for three ODI and two Tests.

Raza lost its central contract last month, in the middle of a dispute with Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), who claimed that the SUV had breached the terms of its prior agreement with the board, and apparently had lost the selection for the Two upcoming tours of Zimbabwe when the squads were appointed two weeks ago.

But the contractual issues have been resolved after a meeting between Raza and the ZC contract committee on Monday, and he should sign a new contract this week. "I am very happy with the news and thanks to ZC, who quickly solved my problems," said Raza. "I just want to leave this behind and focus on my cricket and enjoy it."

While it will now make the trip to Bangladesh, Raza will not take part in South Africa's previous limited tour starting this Sunday. A statement from ZC suggested that when Zimbabwe left for South Africa on Wednesday, the timing of the resolution did not allow the inclusion of Raza by the selectors.

"We are pleased to have found common ground with Sikandar, who is one of our best players," said ZC interim CEO Givemore Makoni. "We welcome back the configuration of the national team, and we hope it will contribute greatly in Bangladesh and in future tours."

Raza played cricket for the last time for Zimbabwe in the World Cup Qualifying in March, when he was named Player of the Tournament for his full contributions. He was one of the five main players who did not participate in the triangular T20 series that involved Australia and Pakistan in July, and the ODI against Pakistan that followed. The other four (Brendan Taylor, Graeme Cremer, Craig Ervine and Sean Williams) were unable to play for Zimbabwe due to non-payment of salaries, but have since returned, after ZC was placed on a financial plan provided by the ICC, although Cremer is out of action until he recovers from knee surgery.
